Setting the context/Beginning the lesson (Introduction)
Ensure the class is settled and the materials required are distributed. Recap previous lesson on body parts by singing ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ with the actions. State the learning intentions and success criteria. Discuss with the pupils what the human characters look like in the film.

Teaching the learning intentions (Development)
Talking task - Using previously learned vocabulary, have a ‘cocktail party’. Pupils are required to walk around the classroom asking others “What colour of eyes/hair do you have?” and taking note of this and each pupils’ name in their jotters. Each child must ask 10 different children in the class (5 for eyes/5 for hair). When each child is finished, they must sit back down in their chair and fold their arms so I can see who has completed the task.

Reading task - Show images of the human characters on the IWB and get pupils to drag the correct hair/eye colour description to the character to match.

Introduce new vocabulary by saying each word numerous times in a different pitch/volume and pupils have to repeat it each time, as well as showing the words on individual flashcards.

Using the ‘rub and reveal’ tool on the IWB pupils are required to use one of the new words to describe the character being revealed. Pupils are put into teams in terms of what table they are sitting at and each table is given a colour for their team name. The pronunciation must be correct to get a point.

Writing task – Pupils write down a description of themselves in their jotters using the vocabulary learned in the lesson so far. It must include: eye colour, hair colour and 3 words from the new vocabulary to describe themselves.

Ending the lesson (Plenary)
I will collect in all the jotters and ask some pupils to come out to the front and read out a description that someone else has written. In their teams, the other class members have to guess who the pupil is describing.

Materials – pencils, rubbers, jotters.
Vocabulary support for song on IWB.
